The Institut de Touraine was founded in 1912. It now has a team of 20 permanent teachers and 10 members of admin staff. The school is placed under the educational supervision of the University of Tours.

The Centre Universitaire de Français Langue Étrangère (CUFLE), which is part of the Faculté des Lettres, Langues, Arts et Sciences Humaines (FLASH), is located near the new Library, a stone's throw from the centre of La Rochelle.

The school is located in the historic district of Tours, at the heart of the Jardin de la France, less than an hour from Paris by TGV train.
