FEI is a national public administrative body that reports to the Ministry for National Education. It was appointed by the State in 2004 as the operator of the certification scheme for French as a foreign language centres.
As stated in its mission statement, FEI is responsible for the following:
- implementing the certification;
- the administrative management and administration of the Interministerial Certification Committee and the Advisory Council;
- recruiting auditors;
- organising the audit schedule;
- preparing for meetings of the Interministerial Committee and the Advisory Council;
- internal and external communications with all players involved in the operation.
